Books explain Life

Poate “you should make it a habit, when reading books, to attend more to the sense than to the words, to concentrate on the fruit than the foliage” (pag. 82) sau într-un comentariu scris de Kafka în 1904: “I think we ought to read only books that bite and sting us. If the book we are reading doesn’t shake us awake like a blow on the skull, why bother reading it in the first place?...What we need are books that hit us like a most painful misfortune, like the death of someone we loved more than we love ourselves, that make us feel as though we had been banished to the woods, far from any human presence, like a suicide. A book must be the axe for the frozen sea within us. That is what I believe.” (pag. 93). Sir Thomas Browme face o remarca exceptionala: “God offered us the world under two guises, as nature and as book” (pag. 114).

“Human beings, made in the image of God, are also books to be read. Here, the act of reading serves as a metaphor to help us understand our hesitant relationship with our body, the encounter and the touch and the deciphering of signs in another person. We read expressions on a face, we follow the gestures of a loved one as in an open book.” “Books explain life”- Gotthold Ephraim Lessing.
